Recent work|December 5, 2024
Roschier advised Mitsubishi Corporation as it enters into an industrial partnership driving sustainable aluminium manufacturing.
Mitsubishi Corporation, in collaboration with Rio Tinto, Fortum, Tesi, and Vargas Holding, is conducting a feasibility study for the Arctial Low-Carbon Aluminium Project in Finland. This initiative, Europe’s first new aluminium manufacturing project in over 30 years, aims to utilize CO2-free electricity for production.
The feasibility study will comprehensively assess the financial and technical as well as its economic, social and environmental impacts. As part of this feasibility study, the terms and conditions of clean energy will be negotiated with Fortum. Leading aluminium producer Rio Tinto will provide advanced aluminium production technology for this project, and Mitsubishi Corporation will contribute with funds for the feasibility study and with the feasibility assessment based on its track record in the aluminium business as well as its knowledge gained through its global aluminium trading activites. Aligned with Mitsubishi Corporation’s 2024 growth strategy, this project addresses the growing demand for low-carbon aluminium, critical for decarbonization and the circular economy.
