Recent developments in Competition Law – Roschier Reflections seminar on 22 May 2018

Roschier was thrilled to welcome many old and new friends to our new premises for yesterday’s Roschier Reflections seminar on Competition law with a year-in-review theme. In his welcoming words, Partner Niko Hukkinen gave us a run through of the most current themes and events in competition law, including the parliamentary bill of the amended Competition Act expected this week and the day-old raw wood cartel damages decision of the Helsinki Appeal Court. Next, we had the pleasure of welcoming Maarit Taurula, head of the newly founded public procurement unit of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority. Maarit walked us through the first 1.5 years of FCCA enforcement actions, followed by Senior Associate and procurement expert Juhani Matinlassi weighing in with some brief comments on lessons learned from the FCCA’s enforcement practice. The 1.5 hour seminar ended in a panel discussion moderated by Partner Ami Paanajärvi regarding lessons learned from the recently concluded YIT/Lemminkäinen merger and we had the privilege of hearing concrete and practical experiences from Managing Economist Emmi Martikainen (Copenhagen Economics) and General Counsel Juha Jauhiainen (YIT) accompanied by Partner Christian Wik. Discussion was lively, for which we thank all guests and participants.
