Roschier advises Stockholm Exergi on major bio-CCS investment
Recent work|March 28, 2025
Roschier has advised Stockholm Exergi AB on a landmark project to advance large-scale carbon dioxide removal in Europe.
Roschier advised Stockholm Exergi AB in connection with its decision to invest SEK 13 billion in building one of the world’s largest facilities for capturing and permanently storing biogenic carbon dioxide. The facility, Beccs Stockholm, will be located at the energy port near Värtaverket in Stockholm and is expected to be operational during 2028.
The project marks a key step toward permanent carbon removals, supporting Sweden’s and the EU’s climate goals. Once completed, the facility will capture and store up to 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually – more than the emissions from Stockholm’s road traffic over the same period. The investment is made possible through a combination of funding from the EU Innovation Fund, Swedish government aid and revenue from the private market.
Roschier’s core team comprised Miikka Konttinen, Marcus Hedén, Björn Winström, Erik Ficks, Carl Diesterweg, Lilian Vo, Anna Band, Kristiina Rove, Sanan Eskandari, Mahir Silajdzic, Tilda Vainio, Emil Samuelsson, Jack Leek, Jonathan Bryce, and Kajsa Zenk.
