Roschier received three awards at the IFLR European Awards 2023

For the first time ever, Roschier was awarded IFLR Europe's national Law Firm of the Year award for both our offices, in Finland and Sweden. The 2023 winner of IFLR Europe's Deal of the Year – M&A is the Wolt/Door Dash deal, completed in June 2022, where Roschier acted as headquarter counsel for Wolt.

Deal of the Year – M&A

We advised Wolt, one of the fastest-growing Nordic technology companies with operations in nearly thirty jurisdictions, in the approx. EUR 7 billion sale of the company to NYSE -listed DoorDash in an all-stock transaction completed in 2022. It is one of the largest transactions ever done in Finland and the highest valued VC -backed exit ever in the European market. Roschier worked in close cooperation with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in the transaction.

“We worked on an extremely tight schedule, with the signing happening less than three weeks after the initial negotiations. As Wolt’s headquarter counsel of choice, it fell to Roschier to coordinate proceedings and host a lot of the people involved during those weeks. Our co-operation with Skadden was seamless and very fruitful”, says Tero Jormanainen, a partner at Roschier and responsible for the Wolt deal.

“In a high-velocity project like the one at hand, Roschier’s collaborative and client-centric approach was critical in delivering the breadth and depth of expertise they have in a manner that truly helped us resolve the complexity we were facing,” Wolt’s General Counsel Riikka Tieaho said immediately after the deal was signed in late 2021.

“A transaction of this magnitude is demanding on all levels, and I’m proud of the way our firm showcased our abilities and proved that we have the muscle needed – cross-border, cross-practice and cross-functions – to pull off something this big, even if we are a firm from a small Nordic country”, concludes Tero Jormanainen.

Wolt’s Riikka Tieaho was awarded the prestigious In-house Market Maker Award, which is given to in-house lawyers based in Europe for roles on innovative transactions and deal leadership during the awards review period.

Legal market analysis

The IFLR (International Financial Law Review) analyzes the global legal market and interprets in-house expert opinion for capital markets, corporate and finance lawyers. The IFLR awards highlight leading firms, lawyers and in-house teams behind the most challenging, innovative banking and ingenious cross-border deals. The awards also recognize legal innovation and showcase transactions that break new legal ground, set precedents, and develop the legal environment for cross-border corporate finance.

The 2023 IFLR awards were presented in London on 3 May. Roschier Partners Tero Jormanainen and Niklas Eriksson accepted the awards on Roschier’s behalf.
