This acquisition safeguards an important piece of Sweden’s textile artisan and artistic heritage and ensures the future of legendary textile craftsmanship.
Roschier has had the great pleasure of working on this unique and culturally important project, advising the Hult family, through CT Kulturarv, on its acquisition of the renowned textile artisan company Märta Måås-Fjetterström Verkstaden för Svenska Mattor och Vävnader AB (MMF).
For those not familiar with MMF, it is an historic cultural treasure of which all Swedes can rightly be proud. Based in Båstad, a small town on the west coast of Southern Sweden, the MMF studio employs around 20 talented “dream weavers”, who combine exquisite craftsmanship with artistic innovation to produce world-class rugs, tapestries, and other textile masterpieces.
The weavers’ work follows the artistic legacy of Märta Måås-Fjetterström, a pioneer in her field who founded the studio over 100 years ago and received widespread international acclaim already during her lifetime. Her distinguished successors include Barbro Nilsson, Marianne Richter and Ann-Mari Forsberg. The studio’s creations are featured in prominent locations, such as numerous churches and palaces in Sweden and abroad, and are showcased in major cultural institutions around the globe, like the Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
“I have always been a big admirer of MMF’s work, so you’ll understand my enthusiasm that we got a chance to work on this project. The Hult family’s decision to support MMF will safeguard this important piece of Swedish textile artisan and artistic heritage and also secure the future employment of the highly-skilled weavers and enable the operations to grow. We so look forward to following MMF’s continued journey under the Hult family’s stewardship,” comments Partner Malin Leffler, who headed the Roschier team which worked on the project.
