The year 2024: Engaging, innovating, and creating impact

Insights|December 13, 2024

In 2024, we continued to strengthen our position as a leading legal advisor in the Nordics. Here’s a look back at some of the year’s key highlights.

Fostering leadership and dialogue

We believe in fostering open dialogue and promoting leadership grounded in trust and transparency. This year, we continued to provide platforms for meaningful conversations through initiatives like our Leadership Seminars, which featured a diverse range of speakers.

Some of the notable contributors included Caroline Farberger, board executive and investor, who shared her perspective on inclusivity and privilege; Eija Hakakari, Director of HR, Security, and Sustainability at YLE; and Julia Macharey, SVP of People and Culture at Orion, who discussed the evolving role of leadership. In Stockholm, hockey legend and sustainability advocate Mats Sundin addressed the importance of sustainable leadership.

Our House of Many Voices series also expanded this year, offering engaging discussions on pressing topics. In Stockholm, more than 20 speakers explored Nordic safety, the green transition, equality, and AI. In Helsinki the focus was on the future of food, youth engagement, and education. Some of the esteemed speakers included Wegger Chr. Strømmen, Norwegian Ambassador to Finland; Pasi Vainikka, CEO of Solar Foods; Riitta Hari, Professor Emerita at Aalto University; Ewa Skoog Haslum, Vice Admiral and Marine Chief of the Swedish Defense Force; and Eirik Winter, CEO of BNP Paribas Nordic Region.

Societal impact and charity efforts

We continued to prioritize societal impact through various initiatives. Our collaboration with Beredskapslyftet remained central to our efforts, supporting initiatives tied to the Ukraine crisis. Another example was the Knitting for Ukraine campaign, where our team contributed over 200 pairs of wool socks, which are taken to Ukraine before Christmas in partnership with Caravan to Ukraine. These efforts were complemented by donations and pro bono support for initiatives addressing the crisis.

We also continued our collaboration with A Million Minds, participating again in the Dream Challenge 2024. This initiative encourages young students from urban areas in Sweden to apply to high schools, inspiring them to prioritize their education and shape their futures. Supporting programs like this reflect our commitment to empowering the next generation to engage with meaningful societal issues.

Our long-term pro bono partnership with the John Nurminen Foundation has focused on supporting their strategic expansion beyond Finland to enhance their impact across the Baltic Sea region. This includes facilitating introductions and fostering relationship-building opportunities, particularly in markets such as Sweden, to strengthen their reach and influence.

Engaging with future talent

Strengthening connections with future legal professionals remains a priority for us. This year, our Roschier All-Star Career Night provided students with opportunities to network with our team and hear inspiring stories from invited speakers, including Maria Wasastjerna, CEO and investor at Kvanted and Roschier alumna; Heikki Vestman, politician for the National Coalition Party and Roschier alumnus; Allan Rosas, former EU judge; and Kirsi Komi, board professional.

Our flagship student program, the Roschier Talent Academy, continued to attract top talent across the Nordics. Combining legal training, practical workshops, and career development opportunities, these programs help nurture the next generation of legal professionals.

Leadership transition

In December, we welcomed Johan Sidklev as our new Managing Partner. Johan, a Stockholm-based partner and dispute resolution expert, succeeds Mikko Manner, who led the firm through a period of significant growth. Reflecting on Mikko’s tenure, Antti Ihamuotila, Chairman of the Board, noted the firm’s accomplishments in revenue, headcount, and reputation.

Johan shared his vision for the future, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, innovation, and client-centricity: “My focus will be on preserving our core strengths while exploring new ways to serve our clients in a rapidly evolving world.”

Partnering for growth: Supporting clients and startups

This year, we deepened our collaboration with the startup scene through initiatives like SILTA, Feminvest, and Female Founder Pitching Day, and a partnership with the Finnish Startup Community, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship across the Nordics.

In addition, we advised our clients on several significant transactions, such as:

Finland

Sweden

Looking ahead

As we move forward under Johan’s leadership, we remain committed to our one-firm approach, spreading expertise across our Helsinki and Stockholm offices to deliver seamless, client-focused solutions. With an emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, we are well-positioned to continue supporting our clients and contributing to societal progress across the Nordics.
